Sindh Police Admit to Arresting Anmol Pinky from Lahore in Standing Committee Meeting

KARACHI: The Sindh Police have officially acknowledged the arrest of Anmol Pinky from Lahore during a recent meeting of the Standing Committee on Interior.

According to details reported by ARY News, the high-level meeting of the Sindh Assembly’s Standing Committee on Interior was attended by prominent leaders, including Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) figures Faryal Talpur, Nabil Gabol, Abdul Qadir Patel, and Provincial Interior Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar, among other officials.

Controversy Over Arrest Venue

During the briefing, when the police confirmed that Anmol Pinky was apprehended in Lahore, Member of National Assembly (MNA) Agha Rafiullah expressed strong indignation.

“If Pinky was arrested from Lahore, why was Sindh’s name defamed everywhere in connection to this case?” Rafiullah questioned.

Debate on Pan and Gutka Ban

The meeting took an interesting turn when MNA Qadir Patel challenged the existing legal ban on pan (betel leaf) and gutka. Patel’s Argument: “We have been briefed that naswar worth 1 billion rupees has been exported from the country. If that is allowed, why is there a ban on pan and gutka?” Interior Minister’s Response: Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar admitted that loopholes exist in the country’s laws. However, he clarified that the health hazards associated with mawa gutka and naswar are entirely different from one another.

Crackdown on Narcotics and Corruption Allegations

PPP leader Nabil Gabol strictly criticized the police department’s anti-narcotics operations. He alleged that operations against mawa gutka and drugs are selectively targeted toward impoverished areas like Lyari.

“I can provide a detailed list revealing which police front-man (beater) is facilitating drug supply through the police force itself,” Gabol claimed.

Taking immediate notice of the allegation, Faryal Talpur directed Nabil Gabol to hand over the suspected list. She ordered the Sindh Police to launch an indiscriminate and rigorous crackdown against drug peddling based on that information.
