KARACHI: In a major late-night operation, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) launched a crackdown on illegal encroachments around the Hill Park area, demolishing several unauthorized structures built by cutting into the hilly terrain.
The operation was initiated following direct instructions from Mayor Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab. Heavy machinery was deployed during the drive to flatten multiple illegal structures, including a boundary wall erected on a disputed plot. The anti-encroachment action was executed by the Land Department staff under the direct supervision of Director Encroachment, Sher Ali.
According to a KMC spokesperson, all illegal constructions around Hill Park have been successfully dismantled, and the area has been completely cleared of encroachments.
Mayor Demands Records for Disputed Plot
Alongside the operation, Mayor Murtaza Wahab has formally written a letter to the Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Works, demanding the complete official record of Plot No. 39 G-4, Block 6.
Sources reveal that claims regarding the leasing of the said plot have been made by the Pakistan Employees Co-operative Housing Society (PECHS). An official investigation into these claims is currently underway.
Zero Tolerance Policy
The KMC administration reiterated its stance against land grabbing, stating that indiscriminate operations against illegal constructions will continue across the city to protect state land and designated public/preserved areas.
