KARACHI: In a major offensive against the illegal sale of life-saving drugs, the FIA Corporate Crime Circle, alongside officials from the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP), conducted a targeted raid at Denso Hall, Katchi Gali No. 2. The operation resulted in the sealing of 20 wholesale shops and the arrest of 21 individuals involved in the illicit trade of “Not for Sale” government samples and unregistered medicines. FIA officials confirmed that medicines worth millions of rupees, including expired drugs and government-issue samples, were seized during the action. Investigation revealed that none of the arrested shopkeepers possessed valid licenses, and the entire market was found complicit in these illegal activities.
Zero Tolerance for “Crimes Against Humanity”
Speaking to the media, FIA officials emphasized that selling medicines intended for the poor is a “crime against humanity.” The authorities noted that the sale of “Not for Sale” samples is impossible without the connivance of hospital staff and medical representatives. Investigations are now being expanded to bring the entire network of facilitators and distributors to justice.
The Investigation Scope
The FIA has registered cases against the suspects and is currently interrogating them to identify the medical representatives, hospital staff, and distributors responsible for leaking government supplies and dealing in expired drugs. This crackdown is part of a larger provincial effort to sanitize Karachi’s medicine markets from counterfeit and stolen pharmaceutical products that pose a direct threat to public health.
