KARACHI: A team from the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) was reportedly attacked and subjected to severe violence by cattle traders while attempting to dismantle an illegal cattle market in the Gulberg and Samanabad areas.
The Incident
Illegal cattle markets established on the main arteries of Gulberg and Samanabad have become a significant nuisance for citizens. Traders arriving from across the country have occupied the main roads, completely paralyzing the city’s traffic system. Residents and commuters remained stuck in gridlock for hours as the main thoroughfares were entirely blocked, causing immense distress to the local population.
The Conflict
When the KMC enforcement staff arrived to clear the encroachments, the traders turned violent. According to sources, the mob intercepted the officials and allegedly tortured them, causing the situation to escalate further and creating chaos on the spot.
Administrative Failure
Despite the presence of District Police and Traffic Police alongside the KMC team, the authorities appeared helpless. The joint efforts of the civil administration failed to remove the illegal market or disperse the protesters, leaving the residents at the mercy of the situation.
