KARACHI: In response to the looming heatwave forecast, K-Electric (KE) has announced a series of strategic measures aimed at providing relief to the citizens of Karachi and ensuring a stable power supply during the period of intense heat.
According to a spokesperson for the utility provider, a specialized strategy has been implemented to minimize disruptions. To ensure the system remains operational without technical glitches, all scheduled maintenance shutdowns have been suspended for the duration of the heatwave.
Key Highlights of the Relief Plan:
Currently, 70% of K-Electric’s network is already exempt from routine load-shedding. The spokesperson clarified that if the city’s temperature exceeds 45°C, all “economic load-shedding” scheduled during afternoon hours will be immediately halted. Furthermore, maintenance work that requires power outages has been put on hold to prevent any man-made supply gaps.
“K-Electric is utilizing all available resources to fulfill its commitment of providing relief to the people of Karachi during this extreme weather,” the statement read.
Public Safety Advisory
Alongside the operational updates, K-Electric has urged citizens to take necessary precautions to stay safe. Residents are advised to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities and direct sun exposure, increase water intake to stay hydrated, and practice energy conservation where possible to reduce pressure on the grid.
The utility provider reiterated that its teams are on high alert to address any localized faults or emergencies arising from the high temperatures.
