KARACHI: In a move to curb the rising incidents of vandalism and theft of public property, Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab has announced the formation of a dedicated Vigilance Squad to safeguard the city’s infrastructure.
The squad consists of 20 electric bikes, strategically chosen to minimize fuel costs and ensure a rapid response to any site in the city. The Mayor emphasized that these motorcycles are strictly for monitoring purposes and are not to be used for any official protocol. He warned that if these bikes are spotted in anyone’s protocol, strict action will be taken.
Addressing the challenges faced by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), the Mayor highlighted that while the administration works hard to develop the city, unauthorized road cutting and the theft of streetlights often undo the progress.
“We build the roads, but others come and cut them without permission. We install streetlights, and they get stolen. This squad is our answer to those damaging Karachi’s infrastructure,” said Mayor Wahab.
The Vigilance Squad will be responsible for patrolling various zones to prevent illegal road excavations and the theft of electrical equipment, ensuring that the city’s resources are preserved for the citizens.
