KARACHI: In a strategic consultative meeting led by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, new operating hours have been proposed for businesses across the city to manage energy consumption and traffic flow. The meeting was attended by prominent business leaders, including Rizwan Irfan, Sharjeel Goplani, and Abdul Rauf Ibrahim, to discuss the federal government’s recommendations for early market closures.
The Proposed Schedule
According to the consultative session, the following time slots have been suggested: Markets: Proposed to close by 9:00 PM (The Federation initially suggested 8:00 PM, but traders requested a one-hour extension). Marriage Halls: Proposed to conclude events between 10:00 PM and 11:00 PM. Restaurants: Owners have requested to remain open until 12:00 AM (Midnight).
Key Discussion Points
Business leader Rizwan Irfan emphasized that closing all sectors simultaneously would lead to massive traffic congestion in the city. He suggested staggered timings to ensure a smooth flow of vehicles. Additionally, marriage hall owners have formally agreed to strictly implement the ‘One-Dish’ rule for all events. CM Murad Ali Shah assured the business community that while the federal government is pushing for 8:00 PM closures, the Sindh government will not make a final decision without taking all stakeholders into confidence.
Official Statement: The provincial government is currently reviewing these proposals. A final notification will be issued considering the vastness of Karachi and the convenience of the general public.
