KARACHI: Renowned Pakistani actress and child rights activist Nadia Jamil recently shared a surprising revelation about her career, disclosing that she was the original choice for a lead role in the Bollywood blockbuster Veer-Zaara alongside superstar Shah Rukh Khan.
Speaking during a special Women’s Day segment on a private TV channel’s Ramadan transmission, Jamil opened up about the difficult choice between a potential global film career and motherhood.
The Offer of a Lifetime Nadia revealed that her role in the Yash Chopra directorial was almost finalized. The legendary filmmaker had personally reached out to her, and discussions were well underway. However, the timing of the shoot coincided with a pivotal moment in her personal life.
Prioritizing Motherhood over Fame While the project was being discussed during the early days of her marriage, the actual filming was scheduled just three months after the birth of her eldest son, Raqib.
“My in-laws were incredibly supportive, and my mother was even ready to accompany me to the film sets to help with the baby,” Jamil shared. “But I made a conscious decision to spend every possible moment with my child.”
No Regrets The actress recalled a conversation with Yash Chopra where the late director warned her that she might be “ruining her career” by passing up such a massive opportunity. Nadia’s stance, however, remained firm. She emphasized that for her, a professional career—no matter how glamorous—could never outweigh the importance of being present for her child.
Nadia Jamil remains a celebrated figure in Pakistan, not just for her acting prowess but for her unwavering commitment to social causes and her authentic approach to life.
