KARACHI – In a major move to bolster labor welfare, the Sindh Government has announced a significant increase in death and marriage grants for industrial workers. The decision was finalized during the 35th Governing Body meeting of the Sindh Workers Welfare Board (SWWB), chaired by Saeed Ghani, Minister for Labour, Manpower, and Social Protection.
The board approved substantial increments to provide better financial security to laborers, increasing the Death Grant from Rs. 700,000 to Rs. 1,000,000, while the Marriage Grant has been doubled from Rs. 200,000 to Rs. 400,000.
Minister Saeed Ghani emphasized that protecting workers’ rights remains the government’s top priority. Addressing past irregularities, the Minister announced that several controversial projects initiated by the previous board have been scrapped as they were deemed contrary to the interests of the workers and the institution. Furthermore, transparent investigations have been launched into these past decisions, and centralized committees have been formed to monitor all SWWB operations to ensure absolute transparency.
The meeting also saw the induction of new governing body members and the approval of a new Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the board to improve communication and outreach. Minister Ghani reiterated that the government is committed to ensuring that every penny meant for workers is spent transparently and solely for their benefit.
