KARACHI: The Bin Qasim Police has apprehended a four-member gang involved in stealing scrap and copper wire from the Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM) premises. Among those arrested is a dismissed law enforcement official who used his former identity to facilitate the crimes.
The Operation Acting on a tip-off from confidential sources, the District Malir police conducted a targeted raid. During the operation, four suspects identified as Jahangir, Abdul Rahim, Aqeel Ahmed, and Adil (alias Adeel) were taken into custody.
Recovered Items & Modus Operandi Police recovered over 35kg of stolen copper wire from the suspects’ possession. According to a spokesperson for the District Malir Police, the gang was notorious for stealing industrial scrap and selling it to various warehouses across the city.
The “Rangers” Connection During the initial investigation, the suspect Aqeel Ahmed attempted to impersonate an active official of the Pakistan Rangers. However, it was later revealed that he was a former employee who had been dismissed from service previously.
Legal Action The Bin Qasim Police has registered a formal case against the accused. Investigations are currently underway to identify the warehouses where the stolen material was being sold, and the criminal records of all suspects are being scrutinized for further links to organized crime.
