KARACHI – A series of three consecutive explosions in the Bath Island area of Clifton sent shockwaves through the neighborhood, causing residents to flee their homes in fear. The blasts were immediately followed by a massive fire in an underground gas pipeline.
The Incident According to details, the explosions occurred near Gulshan-e-Faisal in Bath Island, allegedly due to a leak in the gas line. The intensity of the blasts caused immediate panic, drawing a large number of residents out onto the streets.
Official Response Upon receiving the report, police and fire brigade teams rushed to the scene. SHO Boat Basin, Syed Rashid Ali, stated that repair work was already underway at the site when the gas leakage triggered the explosions. Police cordoned off the area with safety barriers to keep citizens away from the flames, ensuring a clear path for emergency services.
Challenges in Firefighting Fire brigade officials reported that the fire intensified due to continuous gas pressure. They maintained that the blaze could not be fully extinguished until the main gas supply was cut off. To prevent further escalation, two KMC fire tenders remained stationed at the spot as a precautionary measure.
Resolution After nearly an hour and a half, teams from the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) arrived at the scene and suspended the gas supply. Once the leakage was contained, repair work on the affected pipeline commenced. No casualties were reported in the incident.
