KARACHI – The Karachi Police have expressed complete ignorance regarding the source of gunfire that resulted in multiple casualties during a protest staged at the US Consulate.
According to police sources, security personnel deployed at the site did not open fire on the protesters. Officials maintained that it remains unclear who initiated the shooting or where the bullets originated from.
In off-the-record statements, security officials claimed that officers on duty did not use their weapons. They also noted that private security personnel are stationed within the US Consulate premises. Civil Hospital Karachi reported receiving 9 bodies and providing treatment to 36 injured individuals.
According to the Civil Hospital Trauma Center, a total of 45 people were brought in following the incident. The deceased have been identified as Kazim Mubarak, Kazim Hussain Zaidi, Adeel, Sajid Ali, Khawar Abbas, and Muhammad Ali; one individual remains unidentified. The victims range in age from 18 to 50 years old.
Hospital authorities confirmed that all deaths and injuries were a direct result of gunshot wounds. While the police distance themselves from the violence, the question of who pulled the trigger during the demonstration remains unanswered.
