KARACHI: In a high-stakes joint operation, the Sindh Police’s Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and a premier intelligence agency successfully foiled a major terror plot in the city, officials reported on Thursday. The intelligence-based operation (IBO) was carried out in District Malir, resulting in the arrest of a suspected terrorist identified as Asmatullah, allegedly affiliated with the banned outfit BLA (Fitna-al-Hindustan).
Recovered Items: During the raid, security forces recovered a significant cache of explosives intended for a large-scale attack. The seized items include a prepared suicide jacket, two hand grenades, explosive material, ball bearings, iron nails, prima cord, and an explosive box.
Investigation Details: According to CTD officials, the arrested suspect belongs to the banned BLA, with investigators claiming the group is backed by a neighboring country. Preliminary findings suggest that the operative was acting on targets assigned from across the border to destabilize the city. A case has been registered at the CTD police station, and a formal investigation has been launched. Officials expect further revelations regarding the network’s sleeper cells in Karachi as the interrogation progresses.
