Massive Fire Erupts at Chemical Factory in Karachi’s SITE Area, Rescue Operations Underway

KARACHI: A fierce fire broke out at a chemical factory located near Valika Chowrangi in the SITE Industrial Area, engulfing the entire building within minutes. According to a spokesperson for Rescue 1122, emergency teams and KMC fire tenders rushed to the scene immediately after the blaze was reported.

Emergency Response and Deployment

The fire brigade officials stated that 6 fire tenders were initially dispatched, but due to the intensity of the flames, more than 8 fire tenders are now actively battling the fire. Keamari Police confirmed that 4 additional fire brigade vehicles are also working consistently to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby structures.

Current Situation and Casualties

The fire reportedly started in a section containing chemicals used for manufacturing detergents. The presence of large quantities of flammable material caused the fire to spread rapidly across all sides of the factory. Fortunately, no loss of life or injuries have been reported so far, and officials confirmed that there are currently no reports of anyone being trapped inside the building.

Security and Site Management

SITE police and heavy contingents have cordoned off the area, restricting unauthorized access to ensure the safety of citizens and to provide a clear path for rescue vehicles. The police are currently maintaining a security perimeter around the factory while the fire-fighting operation continues.

Government Intervention and Investigation

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has taken notice of the incident, directing authorities to prioritize the rescue of any individuals and accelerate relief efforts. The CM instructed the Mayor and Commissioner of Karachi to personally oversee the operation and has ordered an immediate investigation into the cause of the fire.

Judicial Commission Context

In a related development following the Gul Plaza tragedy, a Judicial Commission has summoned heads of rescue organizations, including Edhi Foundation and Chhipa Welfare, to review emergency protocols and response strategies.
