KARACHI: The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of Sindh Police successfully averted a major catastrophe in the provincial capital, killing four terrorists during an intense exchange of fire in Shah Latif Town.
The Operation
According to DIG CTD Azfar Mahesar and SSP CTD Irfan Bahadur, the operation was conducted based on intelligence provided by previously arrested militants. During the raid, the terrorists opened fire on the CTD team, leading to a heavy gunfight. All four terrorists were critically injured during the encounter and later succumbed to their wounds. Initial investigations suggest they were hit by the firing of their own accomplices.
Identification of the Deceased
The identified terrorists include Jalil alias Fareed, Niaz alias King, and Hamdan alias Fareed. The identity of the fourth terrorist is currently being verified. Two CTD personnel, Head Constable Muhammad Yusuf and Constable Raja Junaid, also sustained injuries during the operation and are receiving medical treatment.
The Terror Network and Seizures
The CTD revealed that this raid was a follow-up to an earlier operation in January, where three terrorists were apprehended with approximately 2,000 kg of explosives. The group is allegedly linked to the Bashir Zeb Network (Fitna-al-Hindustan).
Following the encounter, the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was called to the scene. Their search of the premises uncovered drums rigged as Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), a large quantity of high explosives, detonators, detonating wires, and specialized circuits.
Current Situation
The BDS is currently working to defuse the recovered explosives to move them to a secure location. Meanwhile, the CTD has cordoned off Malir and adjacent districts, launching a comprehensive search operation to apprehend any fleeing suspects.
