KARACHI – Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah stated on Thursday that the international community’s attention has turned toward Sindh because the provincial government delivered tangible results in the face of unprecedented challenges. Speaking at the Asia-Pacific Shelter and Settlements Forum 2026 in Karachi, the Chief Minister highlighted that Sindh is currently hosting the world’s largest housing reconstruction program, attracting global experts and leaders to witness its scale and impact.
The CM noted that the World Bank President recently visited the Sindh Peoples Housing for Flood Affectees (SPHF) project, validating the success of the model. He detailed that the 2022 floods submerged 70% of Sindh, damaging 2.1 million houses. The reconstruction cost was estimated at 600 billion rupees, a figure exceeding several years of the province’s development budget. However, through swift collaboration with the Federal Government and the World Bank, the province successfully secured $900 million within a single week.
“The world is looking at Sindh because we didn’t just plan; we performed. We have fulfilled the promise made by Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to provide permanent housing solutions,” CM Shah remarked.
The Chief Minister emphasized that the cornerstone of the SPHF project is its people-centric approach. By giving ownership and leadership roles to women within affected families, the program has fostered dignity and social transformation. He asserted that families are no longer mere recipients of aid but active partners in their own recovery. Reflecting on the history of disasters, CM Shah pointed out that while the 2010 floods were devastating, long-term housing solutions were neglected in the past. He credited the current leadership’s vision for prioritizing climate-resilient architecture and community empowerment.
The Chief Minister concluded by thanking international and national partners, calling for continued global cooperation to ensure a safe and dignified future for every displaced family.
