KARACHI: Firefighters successfully extinguished a major blaze that erupted in an eight-story residential building near the Baloch Colony bridge. No casualties were reported as rescue teams evacuated all residents in a timely operation.
The fire reportedly started in a ‘Shahzore’ truck parked in the building’s basement. Thick smoke quickly engulfed the entire structure, causing panic among the residents. In response, five fire tenders and two snorkels took part in the operation, while K-Electric personnel disconnected the power supply as a precautionary measure.
According to Fire Department officials, the entire building was evacuated. In a high-stakes move, snorkels were used to safely rescue women trapped on the seventh floor. Chief Fire Officer Humayun Ahmed confirmed that the timely intervention prevented the fire from spreading further. ASI Arslan, who participated in the rescue, noted that smoke had rapidly reached the upper floors, but teams managed to clear the building floor-by-floor.
The fire has been put out, and the cooling process is currently underway to ensure no hidden embers remain. UC Chairman Junaid Makati praised the fire department’s prompt arrival, noting that no lives were lost in the incident. Authorities have now launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the vehicle fire in the basement.
