Lack of Coordination: K-Electric Digs Up Newly Constructed Road in North Nazimabad Within 24 Hours

KARACHI: In a glaring example of mismanagement and lack of coordination between civic agencies, a service road in North Nazimabad Block F—built at the cost of millions of rupees—was dug up by K-Electric (KE) just 24 hours after its completion.

The Details The residents of North Nazimabad Block F, who had recently breathed a sigh of relief after the long-awaited reconstruction of their service road, were shocked to find the stretch torn apart by heavy machinery. The road had been completed barely a day prior before KE teams arrived to excavate a significant portion of the asphalt.

K-Electric’s Stance According to K-Electric officials, the excavation was an “emergency measure.” The utility provider claimed that an underground cable developed a sudden fault, making it inevitable to dig up the road to restore power services to the area.

Administrative Failure On the other hand, the local administration expressed frustration, stating that K-Electric provided no prior notice before damaging the newly laid infrastructure. The administration noted that the road had been finished only 24 hours ago, and they were caught off guard by the sudden destruction.

Public Outcry Local residents have slammed the lack of communication between the city’s departments. With Karachi’s infrastructure already in a dilapidated state, citizens are questioning why utility repairs aren’t synchronized with road construction projects to prevent the waste of public funds.
