Gul Plaza Tragedy: Sindh Cabinet Approves Rs. 10 Million Compensation for Families of Deceased

KARACHI – The Sindh Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, has officially approved a compensation package of Rs. 10 million (1 crore) per family for those who lost their lives in the Gul Plaza tragedy. During the provincial cabinet meeting, several key decisions were made to provide immediate relief and long-term rehabilitation for the victims and affected traders.

Relief Package and Financial Support Families of the deceased will receive Rs. 10 million each as compensation. For immediate relief, affected shopkeepers are being paid Rs. 500,000 each via the Commissioner Karachi to cover urgent kitchen and utility expenses. Furthermore, the cabinet approved Rs. 10 million interest-free loans for affected shopkeepers to restart their businesses, with the Sindh government committing to pay the total interest cost on these loans. All affected traders will also be provided with shop facilities within two months to ensure they can resume their livelihoods.

Formation of High-Level Sub-Committee Expressing deep sorrow over the incident, CM Murad Ali Shah has formed a high-level sub-committee to oversee the aftermath. The committee includes provincial ministers Sharjeel Inam Memon, Nasir Hussain Shah, Saeed Ghani, and Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar. This sub-committee is tasked with reviewing the inquiry report submitted by the Commissioner Karachi’s team and will decide on further legal actions and future strategies based on those findings.

Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah emphasized that it is the government’s collective responsibility to provide every possible relief to the victims. He reiterated the provincial government’s commitment to ensuring the protection and facilitation of traders so they can rebuild their businesses as soon as possible.
