KARACHI: Surender Valasai, the Bilawal House spokesman and Member of the Sindh Assembly, has issued a scathing response to Federal Minister Mustafa Kamal’s recent statement suggesting that Karachi be placed under federal control.
‘Political Sleepwalking’ Valasai mocked Kamal’s political standing, suggesting the minister is “politically sleepwalking.” He remarked that when someone who lacks the political weight of even a local councilor is appointed as a federal minister, they lose their sense of reality and grounding.
A Double Standard in Governance The spokesman criticized the logic behind Kamal’s demand, pointing out a clear double standard. He noted that several high-profile fire incidents have occurred in Lahore’s major commercial hubs—citing Al-Fatah Shopping Mall, Hafeez Center, and Pace—yet no one ever demanded that Lahore be handed over to the Federation.
“Mustafa Kamal is a political puppet who lacks independent thought. If cities were handed over to the Federation based on accidents or incidents, Lahore would have been under Islamabad’s control long ago,” Valasai stated.
Concerns Over Prejudice and Unity The Bilawal House representative labeled the proposal as unconstitutional, unrealistic, and detrimental to Pakistan’s integrity. He argued that such illogical statements are fueled by a mindset of prejudice, division, subversion, and violence. He further added that these ideas are aimed at weakening the Federation.
The Legacy of Unity Valasai concluded by reaffirming the Pakistan Peoples Party’s stance on national unity. He emphasized that Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is carrying forward the legacy of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, who was a symbol of unity for all four provinces. He warned that the people would never allow Karachi to be severed from Sindh or the Federation to be undermined.
