KARACHI: In the biggest operation of the year, the Sindh Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control Department has successfully seized a massive consignment of drugs valued between Rs. 3 to 4 billion in the international market. According to Sindh Provincial Minister for Excise and Taxation, Mukesh Kumar Chawla, the intelligence-based operation led to the recovery of 266.95 kg of Crystal Ice and 60 kg of Heroin.
The Narcotics Control Wing (District West) executed the operation in two strategic phases. In the first phase at Hub Chowki, officials intercepted a Toyota Hilux Revo (Registration No. LB-8950). Upon a thorough search, 240.35 kg of Ice and 60 kg of Heroin were found expertly concealed in secret compartments of the vehicle.
The second phase of the operation was conducted in Garden West based on information provided by the arrested suspect, Arif Iqbal. During a raid at a warehouse, an additional 26.6 kg of Ice was discovered hidden inside sacks of second-hand clothing.
Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla lauded the District West team, noting that this single shipment could have affected hundreds of thousands of lives. He stated that this is a significant blow to drug trafficking networks and confirmed that investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang. He reaffirmed the department’s commitment to continue its crackdown on drug peddlers to ensure a drug-free society.
