KARACHI: Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has affirmed that the provincial government believes in democratic values and follows a policy of free movement, welcoming the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) to conduct political activities in Sindh.
In a press statement and media talk, the Senior Minister stated that the KP CM would be provided with full security and protocol. He added that a representative of the Sindh government would be present at the airport to receive him, ensuring he has complete freedom to carry out official and political engagements.
Facilitation for Public Rallies
Memon clarified that if the KP Chief Minister intends to hold a public gathering or any event, the Sindh government is ready to provide the necessary venues. However, he emphasized that all activities must remain within the legal framework and should not cause any inconvenience to the general public.
Political Tolerance vs. Past Practices
Drawing a comparison with the previous PTI-led federal government, Sharjeel Memon noted:
- Freedom of Speech: He stated that while PPP and PTI have ideological differences, the Sindh government tolerates criticism as a democratic right.
- Ending Victimization: He claimed that during Imran Khan’s era, criticism often resulted in NAB notices and arrests, a practice the Sindh government refuses to replicate.
Criticism of PTI’s Security Policies
The Senior Minister also voiced strong reservations regarding PTI’s stance on extremist elements. He criticized Imran Khan’s historical narrative regarding the Taliban, reminding the public of the tragedies caused by such elements, including attacks on school children.
“Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has consistently termed Imran Khan ‘Taliban Khan’ due to his pro-extremist policies,” Memon said. He further highlighted the alarming security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, alleging that police stations in several areas close after sunset, creating an undeclared curfew-like environment. He urged the KP government to prioritize the safety of its citizens over facilitating controversial elements.
