KARACHI – The Consumer Protection Court (South) has ruled against a private company for selling a faulty refrigerator and failing to honor its “lifetime warranty,” ordering the firm to pay a heavy fine and replace the appliance.
Case Background
The petitioner, a resident named Arif, filed a complaint through his counsel, Faheem Faraz Advocate. According to the plea, the citizen purchased a refrigerator from the Clifton area a few months ago. The product was sold with the explicit promise of a “lifetime warranty,” yet it became non-functional within just a few months of purchase.
Broken Promises
The petitioner’s lawyer argued that despite multiple complaints and several repair attempts, the refrigerator remained defective. While the company initially agreed to replace the unit with a new one, they kept delaying the process, forcing the consumer to seek legal recourse.
Court Verdict
After hearing the arguments, the Consumer Protection Court South issued the following orders:
- Damages: The company must pay Rs. 200,000 in damages to the citizen.
- Legal Fees: The firm is ordered to pay Rs. 50,000 to cover the petitioner’s litigation costs.
- Replacement: The company must provide a brand-new refrigerator to replace the faulty unit.
