KARACHI: Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has strongly criticized PML-N leader Khawaja Saad Rafique, advising him to ensure the conduct of local body elections in Punjab before lecturing other provinces on democratic systems. Reacting to Saad Rafique’s recent statements questioning Karachi’s local government setup, Memon expressed astonishment over PML-N’s critique, pointing out the irony that a party avoiding local government polls in Punjab is actively criticizing the democratic process in Karachi.
The Sindh Minister asserted that if local body elections are truly the foundation of democracy, then the people of Punjab must be granted their constitutional right as well. He firmly defended the local government elections in Karachi, stating they were held strictly in accordance with the Constitution and the law, resulting in a complete democratic process where public representatives were duly elected.
Concluding his remarks, Memon emphasized that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) believes in empowered local governance and public mandates, urging Saad Rafique to respect democratic norms rather than questioning the public’s verdict. He added that the politics of double standards would no longer fly with the public.
