Sindh Assembly Speaker Urges PM Shehbaz to Fast-Track Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway

KARACHI: Speaker of the Sindh Assembly, Awais Qadir Shah, has expressed concerns over the persistent delays in the construction of the Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway, calling on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to move beyond inaugurations and initiate actual groundwork. Speaking at an event, the Speaker pointed out a frustrating irony: while the Prime Minister has inaugurated the project for the third time, physical progress remains stalled.

Shah noted that while Sukkur has seen significant development, the absence of the motorway remains a major hurdle. He described the Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway as the “backbone of Pakistan’s economy,” emphasizing its role in national connectivity and trade. The Speaker also mentioned that PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has repeatedly urged the Prime Minister to prioritize this project to ensure regional prosperity.

Acknowledging local progress, Shah credited Khursheed Shah for establishing a robust network of universities and hospitals in the city. However, he concluded by urging the federal government to expedite the motorway project, stating that the people of Sindh have been waiting far too long for this vital infrastructure to become a reality.
