KARACHI – In a significant move to streamline urban infrastructure, a high-level committee has been tasked with the direct supervision of all ongoing and proposed development schemes under the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC). The decision was reached during a meeting chaired by Provincial Minister for Local Government, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, following directives from the Chief Minister of Sindh. The session saw the participation of Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab, Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi, and other senior officials.
Key Decisions & Highlights:
Direct Supervision: The committee will directly monitor KMC projects under the Karachi Infrastructure Development Policy to ensure transparency and efficiency. Monthly Progress Reports: A detailed progress report will be submitted to the Chief Minister of Sindh every month. Strict Timelines: Minister Nasir Hussain Shah emphasized that all projects must be completed within their stipulated deadlines to avoid cost overruns and public inconvenience. Inter-Departmental Coordination: To improve planning and execution, a representative from the Planning & Development (P&D) Department has been formally inducted into the committee. City Beautification: The meeting reviewed beautification plans for 26 major arteries in Karachi. The Minister directed officials to expedite all procedural requirements for these roads immediately.
“Decisions will be made swiftly and effectively, keeping the convenience of the public as our top priority,” stated Syed Nasir Hussain Shah during the briefing.
