KARACHI: A devastating road accident claimed the lives of a man, his wife, and their minor son at the Netty Jetty Bridge in the Jackson area on Friday, once again highlighting the perils of heavy traffic on city arteries. The victims, residents of Ranchore Line, were heading towards Keamari on a motorcycle when a speeding truck crushed them. According to eyewitnesses, the impact was so severe that all three individuals died on the spot, leaving onlookers in a state of shock. Emergency Response and Identification Upon receiving the information, rescue teams rushed to the scene. The woman’s body was shifted to Civil Hospital via an Edhi ambulance, while the bodies of the man and the child were transported by Chhipa ambulances. The deceased have been identified as: Sikandar (30), son of Abdul Qadir. Sakina (33), wife of Sikandar. Qazian (3), their three-year-old son. Family sources revealed that Sikandar worked at a garment shop in the Saddar area. Police Investigation The truck driver managed to flee the scene immediately after the accident, leaving the vehicle behind. Local police have impounded the truck and initiated a formal investigation. “Efforts are underway to trace and arrest the absconding driver. We are also examining CCTV footage from the bridge and surrounding areas,” a police official stated. The frequent presence of heavy vehicles on the Netty Jetty Bridge continues to be a major concern for commuters, as this latest incident adds to the growing number of fatalities involving heavy traffic in Karachi.

KARACHI – The city’s “reign of terror” by heavy vehicles claimed another life on Thursday as a 20-year-old female motorcyclist was crushed to death by a trailer on the Mehran Highway.

The incident occurred near MN Textile in Landhi. According to Quaidabad SHO Mohammad Ali Shah, the victim was hit by a 10-wheeler trailer and died instantly due to the severity of her injuries.

While the police have impounded the heavy vehicle, the driver successfully fled the scene. The victim’s body was transported to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for legal formalities.

This latest fatality is part of a broader, alarming spike in road accidents involving heavy machinery. The Edhi Foundation reported another tragedy on the same day:

Location: Defence Phase 1, near Akhtar Colony signal

Victim: A 60-year-old man killed by a trailer truck on Thursday night.

According to data released by the foundation, the first few days of the year have been particularly bloody. Since January 1, three people have been killed and 70 others injured—including 10 children and 20 women—in various traffic-related incidents.

The death occurs despite an active ban on the daytime movement of heavy traffic in Karachi, which was recently extended until February 22. The persistent presence of these vehicles on main arteries highlights a significant lapse in the enforcement of traffic regulations.

The past week alone has seen a string of similar tragedies:

  • Super Highway: Four dead, including two brothers, in three separate accidents.
  • Mauripur: A young motorcyclist killed and a pillion rider injured near Bara Board.

Authorities are under increasing pressure from the public to curb the movement of dumper trucks, tankers, and trailers that continue to navigate the city’s streets with impunity.
