KARACHI – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather warning for Karachi, predicting heavy fog that could reduce visibility to zero during the late-night and early-morning hours starting tomorrow.
Forecast Details According to the PMD’s Early Warning Center, the metropolitan city is expected to remain enveloped in thick fog for the next 72 hours. While light mist was observed in various parts of the city today, the intensity is predicted to peak on Thursday and Friday.
Scientific Cause Anjum Nazir Zaigham, a spokesperson for the Meteorological Department, explained that the phenomenon is driven by moisture-laden northeasterly winds from Balochistan. “The wind speed is gradually decreasing. When the air becomes stagnant, moisture remains suspended in the atmosphere, leading to the formation of dense fog,” he stated.
Impact on Commuters With visibility potentially dropping to zero meters, commuters and motorists are advised to exercise extreme caution, especially on highways and open roads during the early hours. The heavy fog is likely to impact flight schedules and inter-city transport.
