KARACHI: The Sindh Sports Department has officially announced the schedule for the upcoming Thar Off-Road Jeep Rally, set to take place from March 26 to March 29, 2026, in the heart of the Thar Desert. The decision was finalized during a high-level meeting chaired by the Secretary of Sports Sindh, Munawar Ali Mahesar, in collaboration with the Motor Association. The rally aims to showcase top-tier driving talent from across Pakistan while blending motorsport with the rich cultural heritage of Sindh.
The Race Schedule
The four-day event is meticulously planned to cover technical evaluations and various racing categories. On March 26, the event will kick off with vehicle registration and technical inspections, followed by qualifying rounds on March 27. The competition will heat up on March 28 with the Stock category races, concluding on March 29 with the high-stakes Prepared category races and a grand closing ceremony.
More Than Just a Race
Secretary Munawar Ali Mahesar highlighted that this year’s event will be more vibrant than ever. To create a unique fusion of sports and culture, the department has included motorbike races alongside traditional horse and camel races and special musical programs featuring local artists. He emphasized that the Thar Jeep Rally is not just a sporting event but a catalyst for tourism and the local economy, providing a platform for healthy entertainment while promoting the region’s cultural identity.
Dignitaries and Guests
The provincial Minister for Sports, Sardar Muhammad Bux Mahar, will attend as the Guest of Honor. Other notable attendees will include Mukesh Kumar Chawla, Syed Zulfiqar Shah, and Members of the Sindh Assembly including veteran racer Nadir Magsi and Qasim Siraj Soomro. The meeting was also attended by Additional Secretary Asad Ishaq, DSO Washdev Malhi, and representatives from the Motor Association, Syed Zaheer Hussain Shah and Rehan Qureshi. Preparations for the track are already underway to ensure a world-class experience for the participants.
