Sindh Cabinet Grants Magisterial Powers to Officials to Combat Inflation and Hoarding

KARACHI: In a major move to stabilize the prices of essential commodities, the Sindh Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, has officially delegated special magisterial powers to Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and Assistant Commissioners (ACs). Under the Price Control Act, these officials are now authorized to take immediate legal action and impose spot fines on violators.

Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has directed all Assistant Commissioners to remain active in the field to ensure that essential items are sold at government-fixed rates. He emphasized that artificial price hikes and hoarding will not be tolerated, stating that providing relief to the public during Ramadan is the government’s top priority and profiteers will be dealt with an “iron hand.”

The Chief Secretary Sindh briefed the cabinet that enforcement has already begun with 870 shops inspected so far, resulting in fines totaling Rs 2.4 million. The Sindh Cabinet reaffirmed its commitment to effective price control through ex-post facto approval, ensuring that strict monitoring continues across the province to protect consumers from exploitation.
