KARACHI: The Sindh Assembly has officially passed a resolution demanding an uninterrupted supply of gas across the province during the holy month of Ramadan, specifically during the hours of Sehr and Iftar.
The Resolution The motion was moved by government member Sumeta Afzal Syed, who emphasized that the federal government must ensure citizens do not face hardships while preparing meals for their fasts.
Concerns Over Implementation During the session, MPA Ali Khurshidi voiced his frustrations regarding the recurring nature of the issue. He pointed out that while the House has passed similar resolutions seven times in the past, execution remains a major hurdle. He questioned why practical steps are not being taken despite repeated consensus within the assembly.
Government Response Provincial Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon clarified that this specific resolution focuses on the sanctity of Ramadan. He informed the House that a formal letter has already been dispatched to the Federal Government regarding gas shortages. He further noted that while urban areas receive some relief, the utility situation in rural Sindh remains critical and requires urgent attention.
The resolution was ultimately passed with a unanimous vote, urging the Federation to prioritize gas supply for the province during the fasting month.
Universal Insurance Increase In a separate but significant move, the assembly also approved a resolution presented by Muhammad Mazahir to increase the Universal Insurance amount for accidents. The compensation has been raised from Rs. 100,000 to Rs. 500,000, aiming to provide better financial security to victims and their families.
