KARACHI – The Sindh Assembly is set to become a global legislative hub as it hosts the 7th Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Asia Regional Conference and the 2nd Joint CPA Asia & South-East Asia Regional Conference from February 3 to 7, 2026. This high-profile event marks the first international parliamentary gathering hosted by the Sindh Assembly since 2012, signaling a significant return to the global stage for the province’s legislative body.
The Grand Opening
The inaugural session will feature National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq as the Chief Guest, who will formally declare the conference open. The ceremony will be highlighted by a welcome address from Speaker Syed Awais Qadir Shah, a keynote speech by CPA Chairperson Dr. Christopher Kalila, and a special address by Sindh’s Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon.
Global Representation
The conference will bring together over 150 delegates, including Speakers, Deputy Speakers, Parliamentarians, and legislative experts representing 17 law-making institutions from across Asia and South-East Asia.
A Modern Agenda
Over the course of five days, plenary and breakout sessions will tackle pressing 21st-century challenges. Discussions will focus on strengthening peace and parliamentary education, as well as the digital frontier of Fake News, AI, and Disinformation. Other critical topics include parliamentary accountability, gender equality, and combating online harassment.
Distinguished Speakers
Former Senate Chairman Senator Raza Rabbani will address a plenary session, providing his expert insights on legislative frameworks. Additionally, a specialized session on Climate Change and Environmental Legislation will be moderated by Senator Sherry Rehman, focusing on regional responses to the climate crisis. This conference aims to foster inter-regional cooperation and provide a platform for sharing innovative solutions to shared regional problems.
