KARACHI: The Constitutional Bench of the Sindh High Court (SHC) has expressed severe indignation toward NADRA officials for allegedly incorporating an Afghan national into a local family’s registration records. During the hearing, the petitioner’s counsel revealed that the inclusion of an unrelated Afghan citizen in their “Family Tree” led to a drastic move by the authorities, resulting in the blocking of CNICs for the entire family.
Justice Adnan-ul-Karim Memon questioned the logic behind penalizing an entire family for the presence of one unrelated individual, asking how an Afghan national was added to a Pakistani family tree in the first place and why the whole family has been victimized. Adding to the gravity of the matter, Justice Zulfiqar Ali observed that such unauthorized entries often suggest potential malpractice and bribery within the system.
The bench has directed NADRA to immediately remove any unrelated individuals from the petitioner’s family record if found. The court has granted NADRA 10 days to thoroughly review the legal documents of the affected family and submit a report, adjourning the hearing until the verification process is complete.
