Saddar Town to Implement ‘Parking-Free Zones’ to Ease Traffic Congestion

KARACHI – In a major move to streamline the city’s chaotic traffic flow, Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab has announced the implementation of Parking-Free Zones in Saddar Town. This decision was finalized during a high-level meeting chaired by the Mayor to address the growing traffic challenges in the metropolis.

The initiative will be launched as a pilot project starting with two of the city’s busiest arteries, Zebunnisa Street and Abdullah Haroon Road. Mayor Wahab stated that this operation will be a joint effort involving the District Administration, Sindh Police, and the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC). A dedicated coordination committee will also be established to oversee the entire process.

To ensure strict compliance, the project will leverage modern technology by linking both streets to the Safe City and Traffic Management System. Any vehicle found parked in these restricted areas will be monitored via cameras, and e-challans will be sent directly to the owners. Furthermore, a heavy fine of Rs. 50,000 will be imposed on anyone setting up stalls or encroaching upon the footpaths of these streets.

The Mayor emphasized that while the project begins in Saddar Town, it serves as a blueprint for the rest of Karachi. Following the successful implementation of this pilot phase, the Parking-Free model will be expanded to other major roads and commercial hubs across the city to ensure a smoother commute for all citizens.
