KARACHI : In a major joint operation, the Sindh Rangers and the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of the police apprehended four key members of an extortion mafia in the Purana Golimar area of the city. According to a Rangers spokesperson, the suspects opened fire on law enforcement personnel during the raid. However, after a brief encounter, all four suspects were neutralized and taken into custody.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Rashid alias Chachu, Abdul Haq alias Doctor, Waleed alias Dada, and Maaz alias Alert Bachcha. Investigations reveal deep links to organized crime and gang war factions. Rashid and Abdul Haq are members of the Jameel Chhanga and Abdul Samad Kathiawari extortion groups and are habitual offenders with extensive prior criminal records. Waleed alias Dada is associated with a Lyari-based drug trafficking syndicate, while Maaz alias Alert Bachcha is affiliated with the Arshad Pappu group of the Lyari gang war.
The spokesperson stated that these suspects acted as informers, gathering sensitive data on builders and businessmen for their ringleaders. They were involved in harassing the business community and spreading terror through aerial firing to enforce extortion demands. Law enforcement recovered illegal weapons and narcotics from the suspects’ possession, and the arrested individuals have been handed over to the police for further legal proceedings and formal interrogation.
