Pakistan Maritime Security Agency to Deploy High-Speed Drones for Sea Rescue

KARACHI – In a major technological leap for maritime safety, the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) has decided to integrate advanced Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) into its search and rescue operations. This move aims to tackle the challenges posed by high winds and surging waves, which often hinder traditional rescue efforts for distressed fishing boats and merchant vessels.

These high-speed drones are equipped with state-of-the-art cameras and sensors to locate vessels in distress quickly, with the ability to monitor situations up to 200 nautical miles offshore. Beyond surveillance, they provide instant video feeds to operation teams and can even deliver life-saving jackets and floating bags directly to people in the water.

Deputy Director General of PMSA, Commodore Syed Noman Ali, confirmed that these sophisticated drones are expected to be fully operational by the end of this year. Operated via remote control or automated systems, these UAVs will significantly enhance the agency’s ability to respond to deep-sea emergencies without risking human pilots.
