KARACHI – Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab and Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad officially inaugurated the first-ever office of the Local Government Reporters Association (LGRA) at the KMC Head Office. The inauguration marks a significant step toward providing a dedicated workspace for journalists covering municipal affairs. During the ceremony, Mayor Wahab offered prayers for the success of the association and engaged with a large number of local government beat reporters.
Addressing the attendees, Mayor Murtaza Wahab emphasized his commitment to moving beyond rhetoric, stating that he intends to take practical steps for the welfare of journalists instead of just talking about it. He specifically assured that the proposal to provide health and life insurance to LGRA members would be actively pursued and implemented. Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad also acknowledged the challenges faced by the journalist community and reaffirmed the administration’s resolve to continue efforts for their resolution.
The LGRA members expressed their gratitude to Mayor Wahab for his instrumental role in the construction and allotment of the office space. The event was moderated by Muhammad Ali Hafeez, a member of the interim committee. To conclude the ceremony, the LGRA interim committee members—Suleman Saadat Khan, Tahir Aziz, Muhammad Ali Hafeez, Fareed Alam, Rashid Siddiqui, Talha Makhdoom, and Shoaib Mukhtar—presented commemorative shields to the Mayor and Deputy Mayor as a token of appreciation.
