Massive Fire at Landhi Factory Controlled After 11 Hours, No Casualties Reported

KARACHI – A massive fire that erupted in the Export Processing Zone (EPZ) of Landhi was finally brought under control on Saturday after an intense 11-hour operation. While the flames have been extinguished, officials warn that the cooling process may take three to four days to complete.

The Incident

According to Chief Fire Officer Humayun Khan, the fire broke out around 8:45 PM on Friday in a plastic manufacturing unit. The blaze, classified as a third-degree fire, quickly intensified and spread to an adjacent factory. Quick action by the fire department prevented the flames from reaching a third nearby industrial unit. A warehouse containing second-hand clothes and shoes was also affected but has since been cleared of fire.

The Rescue Operation

The scale of the fire required a massive response from multiple agencies. The operation included over 20 fire tenders from KMC, Pakistan Navy, and Rescue 1122, along with 4 water bowsers and 3 snorkels. Police and Rangers also remained present to maintain the perimeter and assist in relief efforts. Due to the intense heat and smoke, rescue teams had to break through factory walls to access the upper floors.

Current Status & Damage

The Commissioner confirmed that no lives were lost in the incident. However, the building has developed significant cracks due to the high temperatures. Authorities have launched a formal inquiry to determine the exact cause of the fire.
