KARACHI – Police have arrested an employee of an advertising firm for allegedly streaming obscene video clips on a digital advertisement screen in Karachi’s DHA Phase 8.
The Incident
The incident occurred at the Khayaban-e-Ittehad signal, where commuters were shocked to see inappropriate content flashing on a large SMD screen. Following the broadcast, a First Information Report (FIR) was lodged at the Gizri Police Station on the complaint of the advertising company’s Director of Operations.
Police Action & Investigation
According to the FIR, the company management was alerted via phone calls about the explicit content being played intermittently. The screen was immediately shut down to prevent further broadcast. The suspect was later traced and apprehended from Bhangoria Goth.
During the initial interrogation, the accused revealed that he is an employee responsible for managing 10 poles and 20 SMD screens across the city. He claimed that official advertisements were stored on his mobile phone and the obscene material was played on the digital screens by mistake while he was handling the content.
Context
While initial reports on social media suggested that the digital boards might have been hacked by unknown individuals, the police investigation has shifted the focus toward internal negligence or intentional misconduct by a staff member. Further investigations are currently underway to determine the exact nature of the incident.
