Land Mafia Targets Lyari Expressway Resettlement Project Site, Government Offices Ransacked

KARACHI – The valuable land allocated for the Lyari Expressway Resettlement Project (LERP) has once again come under the radar of the land mafia. According to reliable sources, unidentified individuals recently launched an organized attack on government property within the project boundaries.

The attackers reportedly targeted and demolished the Water Board and Union Council (UC) offices located in Tayser Town. These offices have a long history of public service, serving as the central office for the Lyari Expressway Resettlement Project in 2006 and functioning as administrative hubs for the Water Board and local government since 2008.

The resettlement project was originally designed to provide residential plots to over 30,000 victims displaced by the Lyari Expressway construction. However, the site has been a recurring target for land grabbers. Sources reveal a massive scam involving the illegal allotment of thousands of welfare and commercial plots along with the creation of fake files for fraudulent buying and selling.

Despite the gravity of the situation, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) investigation into these irregularities has been stalled for the last eight years. This sluggish pace has not only caused immense distress to thousands of genuine allottees but has also resulted in significant losses to the national exchequer. With the latest attack on government offices, concerns are mounting over the state’s ability to protect public land from organized criminal elements.
