KARACHI – To ensure smooth traffic flow and facilitate commuters during the holy month of Ramadan, the Karachi Traffic Police has finalized a comprehensive traffic management strategy.
Key Restrictions & Timing According to the DIG Traffic, a complete ban has been imposed on the movement of water tankers from 4:00 PM to 6:30 PM daily. This measure aims to reduce congestion during the peak hours leading up to Iftar.
Zero Tolerance Policy The department has announced a “Zero Tolerance” policy against various violations. This includes immediate action against illegal parking, pushcarts, and footpaths encroachments. There will be a strict crackdown on vehicles without official number plates. Furthermore, rickshaws will be barred from entering major markets, and the existing ban on Qingqi rickshaws on 26 designated routes will be strictly enforced.
Innovative Enforcement: Wheel Locking & E-Challans In a move to curb double and triple parking, traffic police will now use chains to lock the wheels of illegally parked motorcycles. These locks will only be removed once an E-Challan is issued through modern tablets provided to Section Officers and DSPs.
Field Monitoring The DIG Traffic emphasized that ensuring citizens reach their homes on time for Iftar is the top priority. To manage this, additional personnel will be deployed at major intersections and thoroughfares. SSPs will monitor the situation on the ground while DSPs oversee operations from the central Control Room.
