KARACHI – A dramatic “drop scene” unfolded in the city’s Preedy police jurisdiction after a reported jewelry shop robbery was revealed to be a staged incident by the shop owner.
The Incident The Preedy Police initially rushed to a jewelry store following a distress call reporting a daylight robbery. According to the shop owner, an armed man entered the shop while an accomplice waited outside on a motorcycle. It was claimed that the suspects fled with gold jewelry valued at approximately Rs. 4 million.
The Investigation Due to the absence of CCTV cameras inside the shop, DSP Preedy Liaquat Hayat stated that police collected footage from surrounding areas and summoned the Crime Scene Unit for a forensic sweep. However, investigators quickly grew suspicious due to a lack of physical evidence at the scene and significant contradictions found in the shop owner’s statements.
The Confession During questioning, the shop owner, identified as Mahroz Ali, confessed to fabricating the entire incident. He admitted that he orchestrated the hoax to buy more time for repaying a heavy debt.
Current Status The police have recorded his confession and are proceeding with legal action. Authorities have issued a stern warning to market associations, stating that anyone providing false information to the police in the future will face the strictest legal consequences.
