KARACHI: Jinnah International Airport has achieved a significant milestone in aviation infrastructure as its primary runway is now fully operational and upgraded to accommodate the world’s largest commercial aircraft, including the Airbus A380. To mark this achievement, the first flight to land on the reconstructed runway was honored with a traditional water salute upon arrival.
The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) successfully completed the extensive reconstruction of Runway 07L/25R within the stipulated 18-month deadline. Following this upgrade, the runway’s classification has been elevated, significantly enhancing the airport’s capacity to handle wide-body and heavy aircraft.
Prior to today’s official opening, a successful trial landing was conducted on January 3, 2026. A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) aircraft performed the inaugural landing today, signaling that the runway is now open for routine international and domestic operations.
The modernization of the main runway positions Karachi as a more competitive hub for international transit. By meeting the technical requirements for “Code F” aircraft like the Airbus A380, Jinnah International Airport is now fully equipped to attract more global carriers and increase its overall flight handling capacity.
