KARACHI: The Judicial Commission probing the Gul Plaza tragedy, headed by Justice Agha Faisal, met with the families of the deceased on Monday, urging them to provide full cooperation to ensure a transparent investigation.
Focus on Victims’ Perspective
During the meeting, Justice Agha Faisal expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. He emphasized that the commission prioritized starting the inquiry with the victims’ families to directly understand their stance and concerns.
“You are the families of the martyrs, and we are deeply saddened by these losses. While financial losses can be recovered, the loss of human life is irreparable,” Justice Faisal remarked.
Mechanism for Recording Statements
To facilitate the investigation, the commission has prepared a set of questions for the legal heirs. Justice Faisal provided the option for families to either fill out and submit the questionnaire immediately on-site or visit the High Court at a later date to record their formal statements.
A Call for Collective Information
The head of the commission noted that since many affected families were not present at the meeting, it is crucial for all of them to come forward and record their statements to help uncover the full facts. In addition to the families, the commission is actively seeking information from the general public, government departments, and relevant institutions, while also expressing the desire to record statements from rescue workers.
The Ultimate Goal
The commission clarified that its primary objective is to formulate comprehensive recommendations based on all gathered evidence and statements. These findings will be used to implement strict preventive measures, ensuring that such tragic incidents and loss of life do not occur in the future.
