KARACHI – Authorities have launched a high-level investigation after unknown hackers briefly took control of digital advertisement screens in the Defense Housing Authority (DHA) area, broadcasting inappropriate content.
The Incident
The breach occurred on digital billboards located at the intersection of Khayaban-e-Ittihad and Abdul Sattar Avenue. According to witnesses and officials, the screens were compromised for a few moments, during which hackers displayed explicit material.
Immediate Response
Following the incident, authorities took swift action to prevent further breaches. As a precautionary measure, digital advertisement screens along Khayaban-e-Ittihad, Shahrah-e-Faisal, and Karsaz Road have been temporarily powered down. Meanwhile, the National Center for Cyber Integrity (NCCI) and the Cybercrime Unit have initiated a forensic audit of the systems.
Ongoing Investigation
Official sources stated that technical evidence is being gathered to trace the origin of the hack. Investigators are looking into the security protocols of the private advertising firms responsible for operating the screens to determine if the breach was remote or via local access.
“We are working to identify the elements involved in this act. Cybersecurity teams are analyzing server logs to pinpoint the IP addresses used in the attack,” a senior official commented. No group has claimed responsibility for the hack yet.
