KARACHI: Pakistan Customs officials at Jinnah International Airport successfully intercepted an attempt to smuggle a significant quantity of silver into the country, arresting a female passenger arriving from Dubai.
The Seizure
According to a Customs spokesperson, the action was taken based on suspicion regarding a female passenger who holds dual citizenship. Upon her arrival from Dubai, a lady Customs officer conducted a thorough search, leading to the recovery of 6 kilograms of silver biscuits hidden in her possession. The market value of the seized silver is estimated to be approximately PKR 7 million in the international market.
Legal Action
Customs authorities have confiscated the silver and registered a case against the passenger under the Customs Act. Further legal proceedings and investigations are currently underway to determine if a larger smuggling ring is involved.
Context: Crackdown on Precious Metals
This arrest follows a series of successful operations by security agencies at Pakistani airports. Just days ago, the Airport Security Force (ASF) foiled a major gold smuggling bid at Lahore Airport. In that instance, a passenger named Shahzad Ahmed, bound for Dubai, was found carrying 18 gold biscuits weighing over 2 kg concealed in his socks. He was subsequently handed over to Customs officials for further investigation.
