KARACHI – In a high-stakes meeting at the Sindh Secretariat, a delegation of JI leadership, led by Emir Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi Monem Zafar Khan, met with Sindh Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah to raise alarms over the city’s deteriorating infrastructure and water crisis.
Key Complaints The meeting, attended by JI Town Chairmen, Opposition Leader Saifuddin Advocate, and MPA Muhammad Farooq, highlighted the “sheer incompetence” of the Water & Sewerage Corporation and Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB). The Town Chairmen presented a long list of grievances, stating that despite previous government assurances, ground realities remain unchanged.
Water and Sanitation Crisis Monem Zafar Khan emphasized that even in the cold season—when water demand typically drops—nearly half of the city remains deprived of potable water. “The public is suffering due to a lack of clean drinking water and the failure of authorities to clear garbage from the streets,” he stated.
Minister’s Directives Minister Nasir Hussain Shah, flanked by CEO Water Corporation Asadullah Khan and SSWMB’s Tariq Nizamani, listened to the detailed complaints. Taking notice of the issues, the Minister directed all government departments to immediately address the grievances of Town and UC Chairmen and ensure smooth coordination for the city’s welfare.
Persistent Negligence JI leadership reminded the Minister that past meetings have yielded little result. They stressed that the lack of interest from civic bodies is directly impacting the daily lives of Karachi’s citizens, demanding a permanent solution rather than verbal commitments.
