KARACHI: In a high-level meeting chaired by Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi, the city administration has decided to intensify its ongoing crackdown against illegal encroachments on footpaths, main roads, and service lanes. The move aims to curb the growing trend of outdoor seating and commercial stalls that obstruct public space and traffic flow.
Strict Enforcement of SOPs
Commissioner Naqvi directed all Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and Assistant Commissioners (ACs) to ensure that shopkeepers strictly adhere to official Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). He emphasized that businesses must be confined to their designated limits to reduce traffic congestion and reclaim government land.
Mandatory Affidavits for Reopening
The meeting introduced a strict policy for sealed businesses:
- Affidavits Required: Shops sealed for violations will not be allowed to reopen unless the owners submit a written legal undertaking (affidavit) to follow SOPs.
- The 3-Day Rule: Once a shop is sealed, it must remain closed for a minimum of three days before the owner can apply for reopening at the DC office.
- Legal Consequences: If a shopkeeper violates the rules after submitting an affidavit, they will face immediate arrest and the registration of an FIR.
