KARACHI – Security forces successfully averted a catastrophic terror plot in the provincial capital by recovering and defusing a massive quantity of explosives intended to target a major shopping mall.
The Operation
Acting on precise intelligence, security agencies conducted a timely raid in the Rais Goth area of Karachi. During the operation, a mini-truck rigged as a Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) was intercepted and neutralized.
Seizure Details
The scale of the planned destruction was immense. According to security sources, the recovery included:
- 2,000 kilograms of high-grade explosives.
- 60 plastic drums filled with explosive material.
- 5 metal gas cylinders integrated into the truck’s payload.
- 6 bags of locally manufactured explosives (weighing approximately 40kg each) found within the same compound.
Target and Affiliation
Sources indicate that the explosive-laden vehicle was prepared for a suicide mission targeting a prominent shopping mall in the city.
Security officials have linked the plot to the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), marking this as the second major attack by the group foiled in recent weeks. This follows a previous successful operation where security forces rescued a female suicide bomber from the group’s custody before she could carry out a mission in the city.
The area has been cordoned off, and a high-scale investigation is underway to trace the facilitators of the network in the metropolis.
