Extortion or Arson: Korangi Factory Threatened with Fire Over Refusal to Pay Millions

KARACHI – The Awami Colony Police have registered a high-profile case under anti-terrorism sections after a factory in Korangi was threatened with arson and its staff with death for refusing to pay extortion money.

The Incident The case was filed on the complaint of the factory’s security in-charge, Muhammad Asghar. According to the FIR, a former employee named Shehzad—who was previously terminated due to misconduct—stormed the factory on the morning of January 9. He was accompanied by his accomplices, identified as Iqbal Abro, Sudhir, Ashfaq, and several unidentified individuals.

The Threat The suspects allegedly issued a chilling ultimatum to the management: pay millions of rupees in extortion or watch the factory burn to the ground. They also threatened to kill the employees if their demands were not met. To further pressure the administration, the group staged a sit-in at the factory gates.

Past Criminal Record Police officials revealed that this is not an isolated incident. The primary suspect, Shehzad, has reportedly extorted millions of rupees from the factory on multiple occasions in the past.

Legal Action The police have invoked sections of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) due to the nature of the threats. “We are conducting raids to apprehend Shehzad and his gang. Such elements will not be allowed to sabotage the city’s industrial peace,” a police official stated.
